I hate it when people get pets when they can’t afford to take care of them when they get sick.
Yes, they’re healthy now. But when they get older? My TWO cats have feline CRF, which is kidney failure. Lucky’s medication and vet bills have cost my family over $8,000 and Charlie will be the same way.
I love cats, but I will never, EVER adopt one until I can afford a potential medical crisis. We owe our pets regular vet checkups and all the love and kindness they deserve. They didn’t ask to be in a situation where they get sick then get sicker or put down because their owners can’t, or won’t, pay for medical treatment.
Yes, sometimes terminal illnesses happen. Then I’m fine with saving a cat from an ending filled with pain. But something like CRF? The proper treatment can give a cat a happy, fun and energy filled life for at least an extra year. No wonder my vet gets sick of people who put their cats down after diagnosis because they don’t want to pay the money for the pills.
Would you treat your human children the same way? I don’t think so.
